This session will provide an introduction to the eXtensible
Markup Language (XML) to include a definition of XML, a description of who,
why, and when it was created and the syntax of XML documents. We will discuss
the uses of XML and the business and technology benefit resulting from adoption
of XML. We will present the current state of XML technologies as well as
briefly discuss future XML technologies that offer superior benefit. A session
on developing applications with XML will focus on XML APIs and XML object
models. We will also discuss XML schema and eXtensible Stylesheet Language and
their impact on the value benefit of XML.

– 1:30pm “SoftTOP:
The first complete XML-based application development
environment”
– John Hoffman & Art Pennington - SoftLife Corp.
The SoftLife Corporation, a Software AG business
partner, will demonstrate SoftTOP, a complete solution for developing
enterprise and departmental business applications. The primary intent of this
presentation is to show that application packages can be integrated with Tamino
and EntireX.
Art Pennington, CTO of SoftLife, will walk us
through the architecture and key functionality of SoftTOP using a sample
application as a reference point. Art will show how SoftTOP uses an integration
of MS Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat as the front end to generating and
deploying a complete transactional application via any Web browser. This is
accomplished through a strong but open architecture integration to Tamino, any
common app server as well as connectivity to legacy databases.
1:30 – 2:30pm “Adabas Update” – Becky Albin, SAG
This presentation will cover the current and future releases
of Adabas. It will provide a list of new features/functionality and provide
detailed internal information. In addition, release and support dates will be
included. The Adabas versions to be covered will be Adabas v7 and v8.

2:45 – 3:45pm “Natural 6” – Bruce Beaman, SAG
Natural 6 on Open Systems
extends its XML capabilities through an enhanced XML toolkit using the new
PARSE statement and Schemas, as well as support for Tamino through the normal
Natural syntax. The Web Interface has also been enhanced to ease development of
web applications. There have been additional enhancements to editors as well as
support for new SPoD plug-in. This presentation will include a live demo of the
product.
