The Sierra Pacific User Group (SPUG)

The Sierra Pacific Users Group is intended to support all those Software AG users and clients in the Sierra Pacific region in using SAG products to support their business information needs.

We also aim to provide Software AG with a link to the Sierra Pacific user community to gain insight into their needs and to promote dialogue concerning the use and future of Software AG products.

Please download and print your handouts for the Fall 2008 SPUG meeting - Updated 11/17/2008

In an effort to assist Software AG and their User Group budget, we would like to reduce the costs associated with shipping our meeting materials to us. As you can imagine, with an average attendance of over 70, shipping the required number of hardcopy handouts to us results in a substantial charge. Please download and print your handouts for the next meeting....and don't forget to bring them with you!

Our Fall 2008 meeting agenda has been finalized! - Updated 11/17/2008

The Fall 2008 SPUG meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Doubletree Hotel Sacramento, in Room "Salon C".

Once again, Software AG has pulled through to create another exciting, information-filled event for you! Dieter Storr, from Storr Consulting, will be doing two presentations: What it Means to be a DBA - Best Practices and ADABAS - All about Caches and Buffers. We will also have Ralph Zbrog, of LEN Consulting, who will present on Natural Studio and Natural in Batch. All four of these presentations were featured earlier this year at the Natural Conference in Boston. Becky Albin and Bruce Beaman of Software AG will also be on hand to present. They will be co-presenting a session called “ADABAS in 2009: Special Archiving & Encryption Preview.” Take a look at our final agenda and, if you haven't already, be sure to register today!

Summary of our Spring User Group meeting and survey/feedback results - Updated 5/21/2008

We held our Spring 2008 meeting on Tuesday, May 6 at The Sacramento Radisson Hotel. We had an incredible turnout of 86 attendees for this meeting, mainly from various agencies of the State of California.

Becky Albin of Software AG kicked off the festivities with her presentation on "ADABAS/Natural: New functionality for Programmers and DBA's".

We were then treated to a "Natural for AJAX - End user experience" by Dave Love of the California State Board of Equalization.

After lunch, Patrick Gould from Software AG did the next two presentations: "Single Click Generation and Deployment for Building Web Services with Natural Business Service" which featured a live demonstration; and "Reach Your Modernization Goals - Faster!" about various legacy modernization solutions offered within the webMethods Application Modernization Suite.

Becky closed out the presentations with a very informative discussion on "ADABAS and Disk Usage - is it time to reevaluate?" geared mainly toward the DBA's, but definitely of interest to all!

If you haven't gotten them yet, all of the above presentations are available for download on the Archived Presentations page.

Of course, we couldn't end our day before our much anticipated raffle! A digital picture frame and five $5 Starbucks gift cards were provided to us by Software AG for giveaway. And, once again, Emmet Kinsellagh, our Account Executive, provided the grand prize: an iPod Shuffle!!!

Joy Abbott, a Programmer/Analyst at the Department of Consumer Affairs, was the lucky winner of the iPod! Joy is a big fan of audio books and looks forward to listening to them on her new toy! Hmmm, I wonder if the Natural manuals are available in MP3 format. Congratulations, Joy!!! And, thanks again, Emmet!

The results of this meeting's satisfaction survey have been compiled and can be viewed here. Also, this was the first meeting where we made soft copies of the presentations available beforehand for download and printing. The feedback regarding this has been generally positive. If you have any comments or suggestions, or if you experienced difficulties downloading the presentations, please contact the SPUG President.
